This is a valid point. While I did use to make the exact same comment/joke I had never really watched BET. When you take the time to watch you realize that it does reflect a culture and attitude not present in most programs which are predominantly white. For instance on Sunday Mornings I will often flip over to BET where they usually have a couple hours of Gospel Music, and I just can't get enough Gospel Music for some reason, all the hands clapping yelling and praising...I'm not that religious by any stretch of the word but it always puts me in a good mood. You will find alot of Music Videos that MTV does not even consider putting on the air. Their Sitcom and Drama based Television also portrays a culture, attitude and specific situations that you will not find in Network TV. You do see a good number of african american based sitcom's on the WB and UPN, but nothing much more than that I believe. So I guess I have come to see the validity behind the channel, even though I still find humor in the name.
