The thing is:
Changes to a script with a GPL license may only be sold if the changes are also released as GPL. So if one is selling a GPL script or one based on a GPL script one must give out the source code of the script to anyone who asks. If the source code is not freely available then one can sue the author.
But:
I'm not sure if this is also the case in this situation, cause we likely are not hearing the full story.
