I searched on my state's unclaimed property list and found over $1400 worth of unclaimed property for my friends and family. I highly recommend you at least search and see what might be out there that you didn't even know about.
Here's a link to find your state's unclaimed property division:

Click on "Find Property" on right, pick your state, then follow the link to your state's Unclaimed Property Division and search for you name there.

I also used http://www.missingmoney.com/

If the amount says $0.00 it is either stocks/bonds or a safety deposit box.
