Alright, here goes my small story.
I was in a hard spot recently and decided to sell my xbox for family needs. My mother just got out of jail for $20,000 dollars worth of child support while my step father went to jail, but only after he purged my mom out with $3,000 cash. What did he go to jail for? Violation of an EPO my mother placed on him. My mother came to his doorstep begging for a place for her and the kids to stay, even though two months earlier she was forced by social services to get an EPO on him, or the kids would be taken. This was brought about by lies from my mother while acting insane without drugs. My stepfather would never touch my mother, but the opposite has been true many times. I'm sure a few of you guys know how the EPO bullshit goes. My stepfather ownes a small roofing company, so the purge money, and the money it took to get him out left him stranded with nothing to back his company up but his own 40 year old back.
When I went to the shop, they were ready to fork over $70. Right before the money was in my hand, the manager said "Wait, the company stickers are removed from the bottom." I lost out and went home broke because I decided to remove the stickers and take some duster to the machine a year ago. My little brother offered to trade me his xbox with the company stickers still attached so that I could sell the system and provide some basic needs to the household. Atleast we ate good that night. Well the short story is, the xbox broke down completely 1 week later, and he pretty much blames me. There I was, broke as a joke in front of my little brother who just doesn't understand. I don't know, maybe I did rip him off, maybe I didn't. My intentions weren't bad, and that's all that matters to me. I eventually sold everything I owned to help keep the house stable through that rough period of time, and bought the kid more food than his xbox was worth with everything I've sold.
I don't expect my little brother to understand the situation. How could you understand the concept of something being taken away from you at the age of 10, and having to take part of the fall? He got another xbox after the family stablized a bit, but it broke down 2 days after the purchase. It worked when it left the store, so there wasn't a refund.
I would love to tie up something that seems so silly to me, but so important to my brother. I know he may not be able to understand the situation I was placed in, but he will be able to understand the gesture of his older brother winning an xbox for him.
