The guy is lucky I don't write the laws because since the circumstances of his death don't make any difference to the victim, I would have only a single crime of murder. Come to that, I wouldn't reward someone whose dumb luck or incompetence caused their murder attempt to fail, so attempted murder would carry the same penalty as murder. Add in dangerous driving, driving under the influence, etc, etc.
It is ludicrous that people who, whether deliberately or through thoughtlessness, act with equal disdain for the lives of others, but are treated differently once they arrive in court.
