Oh trust me I know they give them bibles to eat and all that. As an atheist I'm
very aware of all of that, and as a realist I know that all the money doesn't make it to the child, but in the end it came down to there not being as much choice 5-6 years ago in terms of easy research on alternatives, I didn't exactly find the non-religious equivalent so instead of doing nothing I went ahead with WorldVision.
Heifer looks awesome though.. exactly the sort of thing I would like to do, buy two goats for $250 and set a family up to look after themselves and the community. It's bookmarked. I just rang up WV after posting this thread though and made a $150 donation to buy school equipment for the kids in my kid's village and a soccerball and pump on top of it for him.
