Since I started the thread, may as well mention what motivated it.
Years ago my grandfather collapsed while climbing along a sand dune at a Lake Erie campground. He was gonzo, no vital signs for a solid 4-5 minutes. His face went pale/gray and shortly after he collapsed he let out one of those raspy 'death rattle' sounds you sometimes hear people call them.
My father did CPR on him and managed to revive him before EMTs arrived. But while he was layin' on the sand waiting for the ambulance crew to show up, he turns to my father and suddenly says, "That was the strangest dream I ever had." It was the only thing he said before medics showed up, got him stabilized and then hustled him off to the hospital for a bunch of tests.
My father questioned him about the comment later in the hospital, but he claimed he didn't remember what prompted him to say what he did (and didn't even remember saying it).
That was about 15 years ago. He survived that day, but never spoke about the incident further.
Always made me wonder...
