The analogy may not be the best in the world, but even Microsoft themselves have in the past admitted that they have an image problem. The phrase "hate microsoft" delivers over two million results in Google. Compare that with "hate america", which gives less than 800k results. (both using quotes)
Lots of people hate Microsoft, exactly because it is as successful as it is. Almost from the beginning of its success, many people have seen it as money-hungry, unstable, unreliable, predatory, etc.
