As a suggestion...

If in fact you do attend do not make it about the partying. The classic mistake made by many new in the industry is that the cart is put before the horse.

Take the time to walk the floor... look around at who are potential alliances, who is the competition, what are they doing differently. LEARN the business before you jump right into "Hi im the new guy at Xobile and we have never met but I want to use my company name to make you think I am entitled to a pass to your party tonight"

This leaves you with very little credibility and you will be met with a quick scan orf what is behind you as the person is looking who may be close they can talk with to get out of the conversation.

If you have business on the table ask for a contact number or business card write down what was discussed and follow up promptly after the show.

For the first venture in the industry I suggest running under the radar and use the time to familiar yourself with who does what, who is doing what for who, and figure out a strategy of how you can provide a benefit for the company.
