PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (CNN) -- Two Philadelphia men appeared in court Thursday and were arraigned in connection with the fatal shooting of a devoted single father profiled by People magazine, police said.

Antoine Riggins, 20, and Raul Rosario, 18, each stand accused of murder, robbery, theft and two counts of weapons possession, said Philadelphia Police Department spokesman Bill Colarulo.

Terrell Pough, 18, was shot to death last month, 10 days before his daughter's second birthday.

A white Honda Civic donated to him after the magazine profile led investigators to the suspects, police said.

Chief Inspector Joseph Fox said Riggins was a classmate of Pough's at YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School in North Philadelphia, where Pough was studying carpentry.

He became a father at the age of 16, and was featured in the August issue of People magazine with his then-20-month-old daughter, Diamond.

Pough was quoted in the article as saying, "She's what I live for. ... If something ever happens to me, no one can ever tell her that her dad didn't take care of her."

Friends and family say Pough's devotion to his daughter was an inspiration to those around him.

"He inspired me, because I have a child on the way; I know I should be a father like he was, " said Charles Rowell, a friend and classmate of Pough.

Pough, a full-time student, was shot in the back of the head November 18 on his way home from New Orleans Chicken in the Germantown section of the city, where he worked as a night manager.

The car was one of several gifts given to Pough by People magazine readers who were touched by his story.

Police said an argument might have occurred the night of the killing between Pough and one of his assailants, but they refused to speculate on the motive.

"There was some kind of dispute, but we don't know what it was," Fox said.

The two suspects were ordered held without bail and were scheduled to be moved to a correctional facility in downtown Philadelphia.

In a press conference held Wednesday, Fox said federal law enforcement agents had assisted in the investigation, though he would not say in what capacity.

Police would not say whether either suspect had a prior criminal record, but Colarulo said Riggins "is a person known to local police."
