CMU Showing XXX Movies On Campus
Marty Griffin Reporting

(KDKA) PITTSBURGH Sunday night at the movies has taken a curious twist on the campus of Carnegie Mellon University.
More than 1,000 students at a time are showing up at a campus auditorium to see movies with ratings as high as XXX and it's all paid for with student money.
Posters are hung all over campus, inviting students to see a XXX movie, funded with student activity money.
Some students say they don't want their activity money spent on porn.
The movie "Pirates" was showing and it was hard core.
CMU freshman Jason Hawkins was among the students lined up to see the movie.
KDKA?s Marty Griffin was in line, but never got in. No one was admitted without a student ID.
Many events are held at the CMU student center, but none drew the crowd that "Pirates" drew. There were three sold out shows for the XXX rated movie.
After seeing it, some in the crowd had second thoughts about "Pirates" being shown on campus.
?Hard core. Like I don't even know if I can talk about what happened on it on camera,? Hawkins said.
Many of the students who weren't in this crowd argue that they should not have to pay for the showing of the porn, that this is not the first time the university center has shown porn and that it needs to stop now.
Carnegie Mellon University told Griffin that it has no control over how student activity fees are spent. It collects the money and redistributes it to student organizations.
The university did say in a statement that while this activity is not consistent with our values as a university community, it is not prohibited by university policy. The university did not condone or financially support this activity.
CMU does admit that every student who enters the school must pay an activity fee as a requirement to attend the university.
Femi Akintola, who's a member of a group of female students on the CMU campus, takes very little comfort in knowing her money goes to pornography. She's outraged that any XXX rated movies would be show on campus.
?I don't feel that the campus should take on the responsibility of providing students with pornography,? said Akintola. ?I mean if they need to watch that, they need to do that on their own.?
?If the student activity fee is used and the majority of students enjoy the event, I have a hard time making the argument against why their fee shouldn't go towards that event,? said Matt Jones, a CMU student.
The university is taking a serious look at whether it can allow any student organization to show XXX-rated movies on university property using student activity fee money.
