These are just the averages statewide in florida. If you live near or on the ocean, its much higher. Last year some waterfront properties saw their rates double and are looking at 72% increases again this year.

If you have a home in 2001 with a homeowners/windstorm policy that cost $2000, in 2006 that same policy has tripled to about $6000. We are not talking about insuring mansions here, this is for 3/2 homes with about 2500sf.

im looking to buy a home now and am shocked by the insurance rates down here
