I lived in Ireland when I was a teenager, County Cork. For the five years I was there, I only saw one black person, who was a school book salesman.
Myself and this kid called Johnny were hanging about near the head nun's office (for it was a convent school) when he came in. It was all a big deal for Johhny as he had never seen a black man before and he spent the rest of the day telling people about it: 'big black head on him! the cheek of the fella!'.
