In the united states we got jails for people sentenced to less then a year and degrees of prison for people sentenced to longer.

The levels are usually 1 - 5 pending on the state the higher the number the more secure.

Escape risks and people who are administrative problems are ususally in the higher level prisons.

Level 1 is usually a open work camp type prison

Level 5 is usually a maximum security with isolated wings

In some states with even have Level 6 supermax prisons - where the inmates are kept in isolation
