I wonder why it has become alright to out and out copy someone elses work.

Didn't we all learn that lesson in high school that copying was bad? Granted a lot of people do it and I will be the first to admit that if some web designer comes up with a good idea I will see how to incorporate it in one of our sites. But line up the two sites side by side and you will see that whats been copied is more than just an element, its the entire look and feel, the basic design. However the copier did not feel it necessary to put in the amount of work that the originator did and yielded a less intricate site.

I don't mean to criticize or to judge. But I would like to generate some thoughts. We are the first to scream foul when our content is ripped off, the copyright photoshopped out and posted on another site without any compensation to us. Why is this any different?
