I grew up in east texas which is all pine forest, but nobody there burns it in the fireplace because its dangerous.

Depending on how many fires and how big they are and the kind of chimney I guess.
I have burned a ton (literally) of pine at my prior home, and I have been burning wood mixes including pine here since 1985. Never had it swept or had any chimney fires.
