Seems rather stupid and pointless to call it a social experiment. Only a complete retard with mittens sewn to his sleeves would believe their bullshit. I know EBgames had a few 360 shells long before the product hit the market and like everything else people who work for the company eventually get their hands on it. They probably put some old shit computer parts in a shell and trashed it.
