I used to suffer from panic attacks on a regular basis a few years ago. I get them much much less now. It sounds really contrived, but I found it very helpful going to a shrink.
Something that helps me when I feel a panic attack coming on is smoking some herb. It really helps me relax, because I become incredibly stiff when I feel an attack brewing. The herb relaxes my muscles and clears my mind. It helps me calm down a bit and and control the feeling of overwhelming panic. Doesn't work all the time, but has helped me.
