The difference is the search query [link:domain.com] shows the sites that link to your domain (at least it should to
) and the query [link: domain.com] shows the sites that match the keywords "link" and "domain.com"
This is not a solution to the problem. Google just do not show all the backlinks, it shows only some of them. Try to use yahoo or alltheweb...
