Puleeeze... only a twisted mind would look at it as 'nearly naked men groping each other'...
Pro wrestling for us was they were the closest thing to real life superheroes and supervillains. It was Marvel Comics come to life. There was great 'trash talking' and wrestling moves. We knew it wasn't real but we enjoyed the amusement. It's the toughest form of entertainment there is. You have to be in top condition and there is no room for error when executing those moves. One mistake and a man could die. Those guys train and train and train. Many are record holding athletes too. Not some fly by night circus clowns.
One day the Iron Sheik showed how strong he was. He picked up two 75lb juggling clubs and twirled them around like they were toys. When you're that strong you command respect. Roddy Piper one day demonstrated olympic wrestling. It was the scariest thing we'd seen. Awesome strength and endurance. He showed the world he knows his shit.
So it's more than that. It's a fun night out watching guys and girls having fun and when the cameras are off they actually meet with their fans and share much wisdom. Some wrestlers are professional musicians, writers, artists etc.
George 'The Animal' Steel was an expert in English literature. It was an honor to meet him.
So they're just not jocks.
