WASHINGTON - The woman dubbed the ?cell phone bandit? because she robs banks while using a cell phone has been identified as Candice Rose Martinez, 19, and warrants for her arrest have been issued, the Loudoun County sheriff?s office announced Monday.
?Ms. Martinez is considered to be armed and dangerous and is wanted on robbery charges for the bank robbery of a Wachovia Bank in Fairfax County on October 22nd and another bank robbery of a Wachovia in Loudoun County on November 4th,? the office said in a statement. ?Two other bank robberies that occurred in Prince William County and the Town of Vienna remain under investigation.?
Martinez was said to be from Chantilly, Va.
In a report Friday, the Washington Post quoted Loudoun County sheriff's spokesman Kraig Troxell as saying that ?this is the first time that I can recall where we've had a crime committed while the person was using a cell phone.?
?The question,? he added, ?would be whether anyone is on the other end of the line or not.?
In three of the bank robberies, the robber was talking on a cell phone, while showing the teller a box with a holdup note attached to it. In the most recent holdup, on Nov. 4, the robber showed the teller a gun.
The woman is described as well-spoken, with a slight Hispanic accent.
