This statement cannot be farther from the truth. The term "insecure" has no meaning outside of the experience of the person having the feeling. The class of experience that you label with the term insecure is unique to your ongoing internal representation of a group of images, sounds and feelings. You have generalized those internal experiences and effectively said, "when I experience A, B & C I recognize that group of experiences as "insecure". To over-generalize the word insecure (your experience) and say that EVERYONE who bites their nail is "insecure" is equivalent to saying everyone who runs is "scared". Some people run for "fun" and others run as a hobby.
Everyone engages in behavior based on personal and unique sets of circumstances. Nail biting is no different.
I would like to perform an experiment. All of you who feel that your life would be better by eliminating the nail biting habit, I invite you to download my Freedom From Nail Biting hypnosis MP3. I am offering this to everyone free of charge and all that I ask is that you lsiten to the recording three time a week for two weeks and report your results here. If you like you can post some before and after photos of your nails. I think that would make for a very interesting thread.
