I think that astral projection is confused with lucid dreaming. It's just another world that's inside of your head. OBE and Astral projection is introvertedly related to the body and mind rather than an actual release of a spirit. I can lucid dream with about 5 - 10 minutes of laying on my back, and from my experience with it I could see how many people think more of the dream than what it actually is.
I did have a bad dxm trip and thought I had died in my mind. At the moment I thought that I did in fact die, and I had no control over my body running up the stairs and my mouth saying moderately "I'm dying, I'm dying, I'm dying". For some reason I remember the event in third person, but then again I was trippin' my fucking nuts off.
