Hypnosis does work. However I think that the public has a wrong image of Hypnosis mostly from TV's representation of it.
Hypnosis can be used for any effect. Look you can get addicted to just about anything. If someone feels as though their life is overrun by anything they should seek help. Obsessive and Compuslive behaviors are destructive regardless of what the obsession or compulsions may be.
