Sure there are zealots who use Islam as a means to try to take over stuff. It happened before in the 13th Century until Ghengis Khan got tired of the arrogance of the ruling Islamic class and almost destroyed Islam globally in a few years.
That arrogance and zealotism will again be Islam's downfall unless the Islamic heads and families get through to the militants.
Believe you me, one, just one major attack nuke, dirty bomb whatever and Islam will be wiped off the face of the Earth. Don't let the rhetoric from the militants fool you. China, Russia, U.S., Israel will come down on every Islamic land mark known to man and won't break a sweat doing it.
Islam is a peaceful religion and the people generous to a fault, but like with any religion there are some nuts who use it for crime.
