Bro, "Field of Dreams" launched Costner's career!!! His stock skyrocketed after that movie! I think it was WaterWorld that was the bane to his career.
Anytime you spend $300M to make a movie that only takes in $50M you're pretty much done in Showbiz.
Also, I disagree with your opinion on ignoring morons. They only do it for one reason and one reason alone; for attention. If you deny them the attention the they will go away.
