Sorry to be cold and come across as bitch. And let me go on record as saying that the good old USA is a beautiful country with some wonderful people. (Spend some time in Mobile Alabama and you will know what I mean.)
But to be blunt, if rich countries like America want to every child in their nation to have a meal and roof over their heads... Then they should get their priorities straight.
It's the ones that the general public has to use grass to wipe their asses that I worry about.

Spending billions of dollars buying them food isn't the problem. The problem is getting it there before it's taken by the war lords running the country.
Until the US - or someone - is willing to send troops in nothing is gonna happen.
