from long, hard experience in the industry....

some people are terrific sidekicks or character guys, but are missing at least one of the ingredients to be a lead host/anchor (or what ever you want to call them). When they're elevated to the big chair, they fail miserably. Corolla seems to be one of those; he's ok with scripted material or when throwing in sardonic comments or observations, but I've never seen/heard the long-form compelling continuity and story-telling ability that's required for a show like Stern's (and Howard is one of the masters at it).
On Loveline, he's great playing off of Drew. Doing the sidekick thing to Kimmel on the Man Show, he was used to best advantage. As the lead on his new Comedy Central show, it's hit-and-miss, but remember most of his material is scripted. As the lead on the new radio show replacing Stern on the West Coast, I forsee problems...
