Sony, like Apple tried to corner markets with proprietary technology. When are manufacturers going to learn that longevity, customer enthusiasm and overall likability comes from choice and options available to them.

If Sony invented the Compact Disc and kept a stronghold on the technology, we may still be using Casette Tapes. Because all manufacturers could easily adopt the technology it became a nearly universal platform that has been around for 20+ years.
