this isn't 1965 - there are single adults living on every street - divorced people, never married people, gay people. why would it be strange for a single man or single woman to give out candy?

i do remember growing up in a small city and even a childless married couple were to be suspicious of - we had one of those on our street and the hausfraus would gossip about it. what a joke. and single men were surely gay or pedophiles and single woman were 'spinsters'.
