It would not be legal in California to shoot a person for breaking into your home unless he is displaying a deadly weapon. It used to be legal many years ago in this State and still is in some states.
I personally would not consider the legality of it. If someone breaks into my home they have just committed suicide. I am willing to take my chance in front of a jury.
