Promoting racism has largely been outlawed... Not as a speech act, but as an incitement to action. It is illegal because it is generally designed to lead people to commit crimes, including violent ones.
I believe that everyone should have the right to their opinion. I even think that outlawing hate speech is wrong... I guess I also think that allowing it to happen, and letting people get killed because of it, is more wrong.
