Vietnamese subcontractors for Nike pay their workers $2 a day

Sounds like exploitation, right? Not if you compare that money, converted into local Vietnamese dong, to local pay rates and costs of living. You even get a better deal if you compare that money to the purchasing power index for Vietnam.

To take my ex-girlfriend's example: She's a Filipina webmaster I met while she was living in Los Angeles. She is based in a province in the Philippines now. Her TGP, Toplist, AVS pages, and gallery submissions net her $2000 a month. The exchange rate is $1 : PhP 51
She makes PhP 102,000 a month. Compare that with average Philippine wage of PhP 10,000 a month. Her cable modem bills: PhP 2000 Her rent: 6000 Her assistant: 10000 Payments to "models": 20,000 Total Profit: 64,000 pesos. Not too shabby.
With all her custom content, she's looking to building a paysite within 3 months.

She recently emailed me that she's using the money she saved to
become a fastfood franchisee in her town. Plus, I know she uses some of her money to send her younger siblings through school.

Low rates does not necessarily mean exploitation.

Work for yourself.
As bad a nike with their sweat shops.
Pay some kid 2 cents to make a shoe and sell it $130
