the fundamentals of photography would have you use a flash so that you have enough light to shoot with a low iso, small aperature, and fast shutter - giving you an evenly lit, well exposed, tack-sharp photo.

problem is, that look (the common porn lighting of "2 strobes in umbrellas, flat light") is pretty boring

the model DOES NOT have to be super sharp in-focus from her head to toe...you want to make your pics intimate and recreate a real world fantasy: when the eyeball notices a woman in real life, your focus is only on the part you're looking at (be it her face, her breasts, her ass, etc) and the rest of her body is "blurred" by a falloff into the peripheral vision - shoot to duplicate that

anyway back on topic, i faced a lowlight situation over this weekend during my shoot...

i tried to make it look "natural" and bring a soft, dreamy feel to the photos...i didnt want to go below f/4 and shoot slower than 1/80, so i had to provide just a TOUCH of fill from a 48" softbox

(canon 20d; canon 24-70 2.8 "L"; iso 800; f4; 1/80)

Good job. watch out for your perspective and framing. If you are going to be so close then make sure it counts. What exactly are you trying to highlight? The face? Have an idea about what you are trying to do.

Just want to get this thread on the track
