If you pay him direct there would be no obligation but if you want to keep him I would pay it as long as it was reasonable. Also, it is calculated as 1/12 of normal pay from December to end of November following year divided by 12 and that amount paid early December (no fixed Date) so October....yeah right. If he worked leass than a year it would come in way below a full months pay.
