Can't say for recently emthree, - we don't use sponsors we don't know - but that was a very familiar pattern with a few "big" sponsors years back. The tendency was.. great conversions on month one with them, then a decline to nada on month three.
Were they scamming? Of course - they even had a script to manage it!
