I think that the big problem is understanding. A lot of regular people who occasionally sign up to a site and surf the TGP's don't understand what it takes to work in online porn. A lot of people think that it's easy to work in porn and fail for the same reasons they would fail starting any other business.
It seems a lot of people think that working in porn is immoral or somehow demeaning. This makes people who have been successful in online porn apprehensive and sometimes even lie about what they do.
I think that both of these things contribute to a general misunderstanding of what online porn is and how it generates revenue. If we were all comfortable enough to explain what we did and people outside of the industry were comfortable enough to listen, situations like RRRed's wouldn't exist.
Wouldn't it be nice to say at a community Christmas party, "I help run a large paysite. We process millions of transactions every year." If the person listening actually understood the time, money, and business skills involved in running something like that, they would have a great deal of respect for you.
