what we happen to use mathematics for, is not really the question (if there really is a 'question' i'm aksing). the question is why do our most complex formal mathematic 'structures' and theorems work so well (almost as if by design) when applied to this universe, and conceivably ALL possible universes.

it can be argued that purely formal mathematics does not require our physical universe to 'exist'. unless you are from the school that formal mathematics is really just a reflection of the wiring in our brains.

i'm certainly not offering any answers, just stream of conciousness. closer too god indeed :) Labret - yes, I minored in Philosophy, majored in Genetics.
