Take enough meds and water for at least a week per person.

Have extra batteries for EVERYTHING.

Get a NOAA weather radio and keep it tuned to your local area reciever.

Have a "I'm safe" call plan for your family. How this works: Contact someone who lives OUTSIDE the predicted storm path, (and you're welcome to use me if you like), and give them your family's names, ages, and location. Once the storm is over, CALL THAT PERSON to check in and let him or her know that you and your family are safe. If you should get separated from family members, call in anyway and tell your contact what's going on. Make sure every family member knows to do this should you get separated, so that your contact can inform them and/or you of each other's whereabouts. (If you'd like to use me as your contact, icq me at 11120676 for my phone number and we'll set ya up.)

Take a family picture NOW. Get the film developed, put a date on the back, and mail it to your contact or another relative in case you get separated. This will assist searchers in locating your family and getting you guys back together safely.

And please, don't imagine that "this storm won't be that bad." Too many people have already made that mistake.

Yep, pets are important. I take my cat with me when we leave, after all, he is part of our family. And as for everything else, we still have most things ready from when Emily hit....
