If you are a serious driver dont get the 550i 6spd, my brother has had his 545i 6spd for about 1-2 years and its a good car, good engine, but the overall internals arent great. It's much looser on the road than it should be, definitely needs to have a better suspension, strut bars, and the like, plus their default tires are crap unless you get some Michelin Pilot Sport A/S.
So if you are planning on driving it get the M5, even with a years wait its worth it. The car is a monster, but its not even about the power, its the handling that's a million times better that really sells that car. The 545i/550i is no slouch, but handling wise it needs so much more work.
You may also want to avoid active steering, personally Im not a huge fan of it.
Oh also forgot to mention that the transmission, the gear selector, and the clutch all have a very detached feeling.
I drive an M3 so I guess Im expecting more from it, but even so, they are very loose and not very driver oriented, its definitely more on the luxury side just with a manual transmission.
