The whole reason the fansign craze was so popular was to attract new affiliates. I see how it could be a waste of time doing 100 of them and only get 25 actually sending traffic with 10 even sending a sale or two.
I also see that if you do not get yours now, you may not ever... so if you have a site they will fit fine... if you plan on making a special section or a certain project, fine. Some webmasters may be sitting on the fansigns until they finish projects (perhaps waiting for more than half a dozen signs) or even waiting to put their signs up after the rest of the world dies down a bit. forgotten even.
Either way it boils down to whether or not your affiliate count went up, who cares if they send traffic now or next year. It will pay off in the end.
