If you are already sold on Nikon, then no question the D70 in my opinion.

I would maintain however that for just a few hundred extra, the Canon 20D is the best on the market. D70 is 3 frames per second, 20D is 5.

I have used the D70 numerous times and it is an excellent camera.

Classes? Hit me up sometime, there are plenty of outstanding books out there that would likely get you going if you are patient in reading them. Classes are good, but what I have found is they focus way to much on the auto and semi-auto functions, whereas books written by professionals focus on Manual (which you should learn to shoot in). Plus, they are specific...Manual for models, landscapes, low-light, sports...etc...
