Most people who buy the pirated $1 - $3 DVD's are people who wouldn't go or can't affort to go see the movie at the theater in the first place, therefore that money would have never gone to the movie industry.

the movie industry is losing money for the same reason the music industry did... they keep pumping out worthless shit that no one wants to watch while getting raped for a 50.00 medium coke and 70.00 popcorn.
I agree with you.... the piracy argument is very flawed. it assumes that every person who owned that pirated dvd would have spent money in a theater. it also assumes that every owner of that pirated dvd would have bought it at $20.00 instead of $2.00. for example, its easy to buy a copy of Photoshop for $3.00 in Moscow... but just because 20,000 people bought it for 3$ does not mean 20,000 people would have paid $600.00 for it.
