Champagne is not classy. In fact, for almost all occasions it's extremely tacky. Champagne is only good for things like openings and completely random moments like sitting in the park at night with a bunch of friends on a hot summer night.
As for the original question: a Pinot Blanc or a Pinot Gris would probably be good, maybe a Chardonnay. The oregano also makes a Chianti a possibility, although I wouldn't go for that myself.
