No, you don't know police procedure.

The cop wasn't provoking you he was getting close enough to smell whether you smelled like alcohol, pot, crack or whatever. He was also seeing how quick you lose your temper which is an indicator to him that you do lose your temper quickly and the complaint was justified.

Cool is cool all the time. Even when someone is that close in your face. All he knows is he's called to a domestic situation which is the most DANGEROUS of police calls and cops do-not-bullshit when it comes to those situations. When he approached the building he did three things:

1.) listened as he approached in the car to see if he could hear your ass arguing

2.) Stood outside the building to see if he could hear your ass arguing

3.) Entered the building to see if he could hear your ass arguing.

If he heard you while he was in the car, pay the disturbance of the peace charge.

If he heard you while he was outside the building, pay up.

If he heard you in the hallway at the door of a neighbor's apartment, pay the money.

If you showed your ass during the interview process, pay the money.

Plain and simple.
