Yes, yes, I know they were independant entities. I should have been more clear.

I should point out though that the FLQ manifesto quoted Lévesque, so there was obviously some sort of connection there... even if it was only inspiration. The realist in me says Rene probably had some contact with FLQ types, even if he later disavowed them and said that it was a good thing that the army was in town (L'armee occupe Quebec. C'est desagreable mais sans doute necessaire aux moments du crise.). Probably looking to his own political future, such as it was... the PQ at that point had around 30k people and sinking. Somewhere around the same amount that the Communist party did.

Either way, it was a messed up situation. I wonder if, say, Stanfield would have had the balls to handle the problem if he was in power.
