Out of interest, why are you creating (or at least trying to create) pages and not posts? What happens when you write a post, does that work? I'm trying to figure out what you're doing wrong - well to be honest I'm trying to figure out what you're doing
And you do NOT need a template that does pages for it to work, it will default if no page template exists
