if I saw the kid doing that next to me i'd understand what he was doing.. other than telling him he will get into buttloads of trouble if they see him with a lighter and someone might smell it.. other than that I wouldn't give a hoot. I think you're too caught up on "setting a fire on an airplane".. yeah.. if someone was buring a serviette or some other flammable they should be fucking spanked.. but he was singing the little bits of stitches that fray at the side of tennis shoes (there is nothing else to burn).. read: the shoe is not on fire. It's the same as singing the hairs on the back of your hand with a lighter because you're bored..
as I said.. bring the cops on board.. that would be enough to scare the shit out of him.. do the things that have to be done with the "new awareness" of terrorism.. but he was just being a dumb kid.. the only thing im really arguing against is not letting them back on the plane or another flight.. THAT is bullshit.. slap his wrist.. give them the fine that smokers get for lighting up in the toilet or whatever.. but recognise he's just a stupid kid and be done with it.. it was probably done for public relations.. to make people feel safer about flying.."if we throw some kid off for using a lighter - jeez don't you feel safe about our security"..
