The existence of so many champions of freedom of speech is very reassuring, but webmasters would be better off defending such issues in more personal arenas. Business requires a greater degree of pragmatism.
Most of us gain nothing from the existence of extreme forms of porn, but they are a lightning rod for unwelcome attention and to many ordinary people who would otherwise not care, they are the defining face of porn. Tolerating those who make a business of extreme porn, even working with them however indirectly, hurts us all, just as does turning a blind eye to those who indulge in dubious business practises, because of the lack of trust which they generate.
It has to be irrational that a lot of us can get energized about whether or how many popups a site has, in deference to what we perceive as our visitors preferences, yet we live with those whose activities provide ammunition for pressure groups and ambitious politicians.
