I love simple designs, they are fast and they give an amateur feel. That often really helps with conversions. I also pre-check every site before I go through the trouble of signing up. I want to assure myself as best as I can that I will not be throwing traffic at something that may not sell to well.
Clubtara has me worried.
It is a 10 page tour not counting the picture page, the video page, about me, and the diary.
The splash page is pure text above the fold, zero eye candy to grab any attention when they hit the site.
The text under the pictures is weak and does not do anything really.
Basicly it lacks focus and appeal during those first few moments of the all important initial introduction. It could easily be better assembled to grab a surfers attention and show off what she has to offer with fewer pages and more of a push towards the join page. You need to herd them in the direction you want them to go. Every page, every element should be a selling point and force them along the path to the join page. Allowing them to click around from point A to point D then to point B and so on never seems to work well.
